A Short Biography

Dave Smith began drumming as a hobby when he was thirteen years old. Now, at age twenty eight he is still enjoying each and every aspect of both performing and learning the drums.



Influences

Dave's influences range from legendary Jazz drummers Joe Morello and Gene Krupa through to: John Bonham, Mitch Mitchell, Mike Portnoy, John Densmore, Karl Brazil and Neil Peart. All have influenced him greatly throughout his life. Other performers and writers to have greatly inspired him are: Dave Brubeck, Mark Knopfler, Prince and Tom Petty.

Diversity

This diversity of tastes means that throughout his drumming career Dave has learned many different styles from many different genres of music and has a fantastic playing ability throughout, complimented by the fact that he uses both acoustic and electric kits.

Genres/Stylistic Feels

Dave is both competent and comfortable when playing: blues, rock, funk, pop, dance and would love the opportunity to play in a swing/big band.


University

While at University completing his Bachelor of Music Degree, Dave was involved in several areas of performance, such as:

- Composition and performance of drum battles

- Jazz quartet performances

- Studio and live playing for students spanning a multitude of genres

- Pit playing in stage productions
